London property types against England: where the capital costs most

The capital's premium varies by home type. A London flat averages £427,048, 97% above the English flat average of £217,203. A detached London house averages £1,159,360, 146% above £470,601 for England. Terraced houses average £639,482 and semi-detached £719,422.

Because flats make up so much of London's stock, the gap between a flat and a detached house is smaller here (2.7 times) than across England (2.2 times). That is worth remembering when you read a borough average: it blends very different homes.
